More About Us

Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue has been proudly serving the community since 1939. WVFR is proud to be one of the few remaining all volunteer fire and rescue companies in the area. We have grown significantly since our founding, adding apparatus as we grew to meet the needs of the community. Today we provide fire suppression, Emergency Medical Services, and countless hours of community service and support. Annually WVFR responds to over 500 calls in Rappahannock County as well as providing mutual aid assistance to the surrounding counties. All of this unfortunately comes at a significant cost to the department. Purchasing and maintaining seven pieces of apparatus and the equipment on them is a large financial commitment that we take on with limited backing from the county government, which is why we rely on funding from programs like this.

Give Local Piedmont is more important to our department than ever. This year our department has begun the process of replacing our aging ambulance to enhance the safety and level of care provided to our citizens. This unit will come at a cost of $380,000 but will come with enhanced safety features and will improve the patient care experience. In the coming year we intend to continue our path forward with this project and so many more with help from Give Local Piedmont.
