Created in 2012, WAAAG is a Veteran-Founded, all volunteer nonprofit animal rescue organization. We help all types of dogs and cats find safe and loving homes for those animals that are adoptable and offer end of life care for those that are not. WAAAG's mission is to change the way the world thinks about and treats animals and to create better lives for them through rescue, foster, adoption and hospice. Every day, dogs and cats in good health with wonderful personalities are euthanized because of overcrowding. Many of these animals end up at the shelter through no fault of their own. Animals lose their homes when their guardians have died or moved or simply can no longer care for them. If we had our way, no dog or cat would spend its days in a cold, dark shelter. Bringing these special animals into a home is not only good for the dogs and cats, but these loving animals also transform the quality of life for the people who adopt or foster them.
Perched atop a scenic overlook of the rolling hills in Delaplane, Virginia sits WAAAG (Washington Area Animal Adoption Group), a Veteran-founded 501c3 non-profit organization providing a calm and loving environment where animals of all ages find respite from their often abused and neglected lives.
A retreat from the hectic lives of chains, over-crowded shelters, and small kennels surrounded by anxiety and constant barking, the dogs taken in by WAAAG enjoy climate-controlled cabins, equipped with private rooms, covered porches, outdoor running and playing areas, as well as indoor areas with comfortable beds. Multiple times each day volunteers enjoy walks in nature with their furry rescues and teach them to love life again in a peaceful setting.
Each dog at WAAAG is regularly taken for veterinary service which includes preventative care, grooming, micro-chipping, surgeries, and pregnancy check-ups, among other services. Specially trained visitors are also called on-site from time to time to help with those more spunky dogs that need a little extra nudge learning manners and commands.
WAAAG's goal has always been to find the perfect forever-home for their dogs and cats-one where each animal can love and can be loved. WAAAG has been so successful in this endeavor, in fact, that former adopters have become board members, volunteers, and staffers.
