Boys & Girls Clubof Fauquier (BGCF) believes that every child deserves a great future, and a great Summer! Our mission is to enable ALL young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our mission does not take a vacation, in fact, every year, we are able to reach more and more local youth by providing a world-class Club Experience through our engaging, fun and affordable Summer Camp programs!  

Addressing Summer Learning Loss

BGCF Summer Camp is an important community resource that ensures all students have access to enriching summer experiences and opportunities that reinforce foundational academic skills. While youth are engaged in Summer Learning programming in the Club’s informal learning summer camp environment, they are exposed to a variety of activities and project-based targeted programs that allow them to use their curiosity while exploring the world around them. 

Studies show that during the summer students lose an average of two months of grade-level equivalency in mathematical computation skills and low-income students lose more than two months in reading achievement. There’s a gap between disadvantaged and advantaged students that is explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities. 

With generous support from our community, we can fill the gaps in academic achievement by providing equal access to engaging, educational activities through our Summer Brain Gain program which is a targeted program that reinforces what students learn in school. Summer Brain Gain adds engaging, educational activities to the typical summer camp experience for youth ages 6-18.  The average Summer Brain Gain participant maintains their reading and math skill levels. Some even experience gains in learning – especially in vital 21st century skills such as teamwork, collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Healthy Summer Lifestyles

During Summer Camp, Boys & Girls Club of Fauquier motivates kids to be healthy through nutrition and health education, more access to healthy foods, avoidance of risky behaviors and a lifelong commitment to fitness. BGCF offers programs like Triple Play, a comprehensive health and wellness initiative, that strives to improve the overall health of members, ages 6-18, by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.  This summer, breakfast and lunch will be provided every day to every kid that attends our 8-week Summer Camp, at no additional cost to families.  

Field Trips and Adventures

Our Summer Camp is filled with field trips, activities and adventures! Boredom does not stand a chance! All summer campers will have the opportunity to participate in weekly field trips that include the National Zoo, Smithsonian Museums, Splash Down, and Urban Air, just to name a few.  There will also be weekly visits to a local community pool, where the sunshine, laughter and smell of sunblock exude the essence of summer. Additionally, we have many community partners that will be visiting our campers. We will have a reptile show, sessions with a local artist, emergency preparedness with the Red Cross, nature exploration, and so much more!  Each of these visits and excursions will engage campers with hands-on learning experiences and fun opportunities!

Your tax-deductible contribution makes it possible for us to keep our rates affordable for all families, and allows us to offer high-quality programs that are led by well-trained youth development professionals.

Our afterschool programs and Summer Camp are the most affordable in Fauquier County, at only $50 per week / per child.  We want to ensure that all families have a safe place for their children to be during Summer, regardless of their financial status.  Every child deserves the opportunities and experiences that come with our robust Summer Camp programs.  

BGCF Summer Camp includes:

• Weekly field trips
• Weekly visits to the swimming pool
• Career Exploration
• Exposure to the Arts (painting, dance, theater, etc.)
• Nature and garden programs
• Weekly guests (i.e. elected officials, business owners, musicians, sport coaches, etc.)
• Summer Brain Gain – limits learning loss during summer
• STEM Activities
• Daily nutritious breakfast and lunch for all campers
• And so much more!

Providing an 8-week, full-day camp that includes so many amazing activities, also requires additional qualified staff and transportation expenses.  BGCF will incur a cost of approximately $1,500 per child to provide this life-changing Summer Camp, yet we are only charging families $50/week per child (a total of $400), so that camp is accessible to everyone.
